Why Chelsea shouldn’t sign transfer target Jordan Pickford

Following a transfer rumour emanating from the Sunday papers, The Pride of London explain why Chelsea should not sign target Jordan Pickford.

Someone should tell Todd Boehly or whoever will orchestrate and control transfers in January that, while haste is necessary, only exceptional as well as specialised acquisitions are needed. What I mean is that the Blues must avoid underwhelming targets; the solitary way to strive to rejuvenate CFC’s diminishing elite status is to have the correct personnel to challenge.

Backup athletes are required to play the squad game, although that precise level of players are already abundantly on the west Londoners’ roster. Adding more strength to the periphery doesn’t make sense at present, partially because some of the starters haven’t pulled their weight or are not of the true magnitude to represent Chels’ in the XI. So-called stars are not ideal at the moment, either: the most devoted, talented and hungry footballers are what is missing.

I believe a trustworthy manager with something to offer tactically is in position at Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter is not to everyone’s liking, I’m sure. But the Englishman isn’t the ‘safe’, ‘stopgap gaffer’, as some have described him. Although, he will need the right players in order to succeed or actually be accurately evaluated, which leads us neatly onto particularly relevant transfer gossip.

The Goalkeeping area is not the first department that comes to mind when considering CFC reinforcements. A second-choice right back, a linking central midfielder, a goalscorer and efficient wingers are predominant requirements. Edouard Mendy might not be the answer, especially with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s re-emergence. Though surely either are preferable to Pickford.

To be clear before my assessment, I do not have anything against the Everton stopper. However, there are certain professionals we don’t value or rate as highly as others, and the Merseyside man is one of mine.

I’ll admit that that the Toffee’s strange, often agitated and aggressive on field antics are rather annoying. Berating his own defence, usually after his own mistake, is unacceptable along with undesirable in any team. Oh, and I don’t think the 28-year-old should be anywhere near an England No.1 shirt. Overconfidence and under-skilled comes to mind.

Apart from that he seems a great guy. All joking aside, Pickford is not right for the Blues in a first-choice capacity; maybe a free transfer to become an understudy is an acceptable alternative.
